Basics of Good Pool Maintenance in Phoenix

Good Pool Maintenance in Phoenix

Before you can properly enjoy your pool, you must know proper pool maintenance. Every pool owner should have a basic understanding of their pool’s components, pool care accessories, and pool chemistry.

If you cannot keep up with your pool maintenance or don’t want to do it by yourself, you can schedule regular pool care services to keep your pool in good condition so your family and friends can enjoy it for years to come.

3 Components of Pool Maintenance

When it comes to pool care and maintenance, it is important to be knowledgeable about and monitor the 3 C’s – circulation, cleaning, and chemistry.

Water Circulation

When the pool’s pumps are functioning properly, pool water is flowing through the filter and disperses chemicals throughout the pool. This helps to prevent algae from growing and keeps your water clean. To achieve proper water circulation you should:

● Run the pool pump 8-12 hours per day

● Backwash or clean filter when pressure exceeds 10-15 psi

● Regularly clean the skimmer and pump basket

● Angle jets downward and away from the skimmer basket

Pool Cleaning

Regular cleaning keeps water looking crystal clear. It also prevents clogs in the filtration and pump system. Some tools you will need to clean your pool are a set skimmer, a pool brush, and a vacuum or automatic cleaner.

● Skim the surface daily

● Brush walls, steps, ladders, slides, and low circulation spots daily

● Vacuum debris and algae that have fallen to the bottom of the pool once a week or use an automatic cleaner

Chemical Balance

Test the pool water one to two times per week and adjust chemicals as necessary. Be sure to keep a test kit or test strips with your pool supplies to take measurements.

Balance pH: Pool water should have a pH of around 7.5. Unbalanced pH can cause equipment corrosion and algae growth.

Alkalinity: Aim for a total alkalinity of between 120 and 150 ppm. If the alkalinity is too high the water may become cloudy.

Chlorine: A balance of between 1 and 3 ppm is necessary to keep your pool water sanitized and prevent harmful bacteria and algae growth.

● Calcium hardness: Ideal levels are between 200 and 400 ppm. If levels are too high, calcium deposits may form on pool walls.

● Shocking: Every 1-2 weeks shock the pool water to kill off bacteria, contaminants, and organic matter and keep the water safe and clean.

Spring Cleaning Means Pool Cleaning Too

Spring Cleaning Means Pool Cleaning Too

It’s springtime and everyone is in the mood to clean! If you’re planning a big spring clean for the inside of your home, why not schedule a pool clean up too? Regular maintenance and cleaning are important for keeping your pool running smoothly, but sometimes these things fall by the wayside. If your pool has been sitting stagnant for months, it’s definitely time to call in the professionals for a cleanup!

Spring Cleaning Means Pool Cleanups Too

Why is it Important to Keep Your Pool Clean?

A very important part of being a pool owner is making sure your pool stays clean. Dirty pool water can cause many health hazards, including severe skin and eye irritation. A buildup of debris can also damage your pool filter.

Keeping your pool clean and well maintained will not only prevent bacterial growth and unnecessary repairs but also prolong the life of the pool itself!

Cleanups for Stagnant Pools

One of the biggest challenges in pool care is cleaning a pool that has been sitting for months or even years! Leaving a pool unattended for this long will create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mosquitos. Stagnant water may also cause structural damage to the pool’s surface over time.

When cleaning out a stagnant pool, there are really only two options: drain the pool or try to recover the water. Draining may be an easier way to clean your pool, but it doesn’t work for every pool surface. Gunite pools can easily be drained safely, while a vinyl pool liner may crack or shrink if it’s old.

Alternatively, you can try to recover the pool water, which can be pretty tricky. This is often a long and tedious process that needs to be done correctly. When in doubt, a professional cleaning will ensure that your pool water is safe enough to swim in.

Regular Pool Maintenance

The best way to avoid a major cleanup is to keep your pool on a regular cleaning/maintenance schedule. It’s generally recommended to have your pool cleaned once a week, to keep the water safe and free of debris.

During a full-service pool cleaning, your pool will be brushed, vacuumed, and cleared of floating debris (such as insects and leaves). Pool chemicals will also be tested and adjusted as necessary. Pool skimmers will be emptied, and filters may be backwash as needed. You will also receive a pool service slip detailing what services were provided.

Types of Pool Control Systems in the Phoenix Area

Types of Pool Control Systems

in the Phoenix Area

In the past, pools were controlled by mechanical timers, which required pool owners to go outside and operate them manually. Over the last 20 years, automated pool control systems have become increasingly popular. These systems are constantly improving, making it easier than ever to maintain your pool.

Types of Pool Control Systems in the Phoenix Area

There are many different types of pool control systems available, each with its own set of unique features. In this post, we’ll learn more about the various types of pool control systems you can choose from in the Phoenix area.

What is a Pool Control System?

Control systems allow pool owners to control the functions of their swimming pool, such as turning the pump on and off, controlling the temperature of the heater, and switching on the lights. This used to be done manually, but automated versions have made this process much easier.

An automated pool system allows you to connect all of your pool’s equipment to one central hub with wifi and a control center. These systems also come with a mobile app that can be used on your smartphone (or any other smart device) that allows you to control the functions of your pool remotely.

Pool Control System Types

Some of the most common pool control system types include:

● Manual timer
● Automation with wired/wireless controller
● Automation with a smartphone (or another smart device)
● Voice-activated automation
● Automated Salt Chlorine Generators

Each type of control system has different functionality, complete with unique benefits and levels of control. An experienced pool company will be able to talk you through your options and help you determine which control system will best fit your needs.

Which Control System is Best?

The best control system for your pool will ultimately depend on your individual needs. That being said, we recommend the EasyTouch Control System. Every EasyTouch system includes an easy-to-use outdoor control panel. This panel allows for full system setup, easy programmability, and intuitive everyday operation.

EasyTouch allows full control over your pool/spa’s features. This even includes advanced features like colored lighting and IntelliChlor® Salt Chlorine Generator support. Our expert team can help you decide if this system is the right one for you.

Cleaning Your Pool with a Pop Up In-Floor System

Cleaning Your Pool with a Pop Up In-Floor System

If you’re the minimalist sort who thinks less is more when it comes to keeping your pool clean, you’ll love the idea of a pop-up in-floor cleaning system. These are self-contained cleaning systems installed directly into the floor of your pool. No more hauling equipment out and cluttering your pool shed with different vacuum pieces.

Cleaning your Pool with a Pop Up In-Floor System

Plus, you can benefit from better water circulation and less energy use with one of these automated pop-up systems. This self-cleaning system can keep your pool as neat—if not neater—as your average vacuum system.

The Cleaning Process with a Pop-Up In-Floor System

The cleaning process with a pop-up in-floor system is simple and fast. You are hardly part of it, which is the attraction most people feel towards these automated systems. A pop-up in-floor pool system consists of the pop-up cleaning heads, a drain system, and occasionally a separate pump. It uses water that has just gone through the pool filter. This recently cleaned water gets pushed back into the pool through the pop-up system and is used to steer debris.

The secondary pump uses the pop-up heads to push the water around on the bottom of the pool. Working in tandem, the pop-up heads push leaves, dirt, and other debris across the floor of the pool in stages until it reaches the drain section. The pop-up heads stay on for less than a minute at a time. They have internal mechanisms to change direction, covering a wider range of the pool. Once the debris gets to the drain it is sucked away, leaving a clean pool behind.

Install a Pop-Up In-Floor System with Pink Dolphin Pool Care

Ready to have a pool with a pop-up in-floor pool system? Work with Pink Dolphin Pool Care to plan your pop-up cleaner installation. Generally, these are part of a new pool installation, but ask about whether or not your current pool is a candidate for a pop-up system addition.

If you’re considering a new pool installation, know that pop-up in-floor systems work with multiple types of pools including concrete, fiberglass, and even vinyl pools. Budget up to $10,000 for a self-cleaning pop-up system.

September is the Best Month to Enjoy Your Phoenix Area Pool

As summer comes to an end you may be feeling like you have to say goodbye to your pool for the season too. But did you know September is the best month to enjoy your Phoenix area pool? With a trusted pool care company like Pink Dolphin on your side, you have the resources to keep your summer fun going. From great weather to peaceful days, now is the time to get your best pool soaks in.

September is the Best Month to Enjoy Your Phoenix Area Pool

The Sun Is Warm

In September the sun begins to move from blistering hot to an enjoyable warmth. No one wants to be out under the peak of the summer sun in Arizona, but as the season starts to wane now is the time to enjoy the warmth without the burn.

Get out there to catch some late afternoon rays in your pool in this early fall weather and scoop up the best of the warm days this year without feeling like you are melting.

Excellent Exercise

And speaking of not melting, the pool continues to provide a cool way to exercise outside. If you’re tired of working out in stuffy indoor settings but you’re still looking to be out of the heat, the pool is the perfect place to get your game on.

Lap swim in the fresh air with the water to keep you cool. Ask Pink Dolphin Pool Care about accessories–like lane buoys–that can help transform your pool into an off-season exercise locale.

The Kids Are Back at School

There’s a lot of fun to be had during the summer when your children are home. Camping in the yard, s’mores on the patio, fireworks on the 4th of July. But there’s something to be said for the peace and quiet of school starting up…especially when it comes to your pool.

Enjoy relaxing afternoons on your pool float with no splashes from cannonballs and no “Hey Mom, watch this!” feats from the diving board. It’s just you, your raft, and the sun. At least until the school bus pulls up.

Pink Dolphin Pool Care Makes September Perfect for Pools

Make the most of your September pool time when you work with Pink Dolphin Pool Care to keep your pool in great shape even in the shoulder season. Whether you need routine cleaning each week or repairs from a summer of hard play, Pink Dolphin Pool Care is a year-round company ready to serve you this September. Don’t let these beautiful days go to waste when there is still pool time to be had.

In fact, you may love being in your pool so much headed into the off-season that you decide you want to heat it for the winter. Pink Dolphin can help you with that too. There’s nothing quite like being able to keep up your lap swimming year-round with a pool heater that makes it feel like summer in your pool even in February.

Reach out to discuss maintenance, repairs, and even improvements to your pool this September by calling (602) 688-7465.
